Italian journalist Fabio Santini has revealed he heard from a source very close to Antonio Conte that the Tottenham head coach was in talks with Paris Saint-Germain.
Conte’s five months at Tottenham hasn’t been easy, with the Italian obviously frustrated with the team’s inconsistency.
The 52-year-old even suggested after Spurs’ loss to Burnley in February that he might not be the man to help the club turn things around (Football.London).
However, Spurs’ form has improved considerably over the past month and Conte has certainly come across as a much more contained figure in recent press conferences.
Despite this, he is unlikely to stay at the North London club next season if Santini’s latest update is to be believed. The journalist claimed that Conte could replace Mauricio Pochettino at PSG this summer.
Santini said Calciomercato.it is CMIT TV (07/04/22 as relayed by Sport Witness): “He is not staying in London. I know this from a source very close to him. And at the moment there is a negotiation with the Parisians.
Santini also suggested that Conte could take Lukaku with him to Paris should he succeed Pochettino at the Ligue 1 giants.
He added: “For about two weeks he [Lukaku] and Hakimi flooded former Inter colleagues with Whatsapp messages.
“Lukaku can only come back to Inter on loan, but at the moment there is a negotiation between Conte and PSG, where Conte is going for Lukaku.
“PSG has all the elements to be well accepted by the Belgian. You are not going back to Inter but you are going to see your coach. Unlike Inter who announced today that they will make two sales at the end of the season.
Boosts web opinion
Spurs fans should take this information with a pinch of salt, as Conte certainly seems to be enjoying things a lot more in North London in light of the team’s recent improvement.
However, this information also cannot be completely dismissed, given that Santini clarified that the information came from someone close to Conte’s camp.
It would also explain why the well-placed reporter at Spurs is unaware of similar information.
Should Conte walk away this summer (which is unlikely), it at least looks like Pochettino would be available, with Man Utd reportedly set to appoint Erik Ten Hag.
