LAS VEGAS – The combination of OCT and OCT Angiography provides data on the structure and function of the retina and choroid, allowing the optometrist to decide if a referral is needed, Julie Rodman, DO, MS, FAAO, told Vision Expo West.

“OCT allows us a noninvasive cross-sectional view of retinal anatomy, providing excellent insight into structural abnormalities that live in the retina and choroids,” Rodman told Healio.

When clinicians aren’t sure if a referral is needed, “it allows us to keep patients at home longer who may not need a referral,” she said.

OCT and OCT-A, when used in tandem, provide 100% of the structure and function of the retina and choroid, Rodman said.
