NEW DELHI: The media and entertainment industry should exploit new formats like animation to produce content for the country’s youth, Union Information and Broadcasting Secretary Apurva Chandra said on Thursday. , to stakeholders at the CII Big Picture Summit.
Chandra said that while the government is keen to support the animation, visual effects, games and comics (AVGC) industry in a big way and intends to create a national center of excellence , he would also like content producers to use the 75 Years of Indian Independence theme to produce content about Indian war heroes and freedom fighters that can be enjoyed by young people and that is inspirational.
The I&B secretary also said the Center was looking beyond the creation of a government institution to promote the M&E industry. “In the future, we should develop institutions like the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) on the basis of a public-private partnership (PPP), as has was made for the AVGC industry. We should create them across the country so that the necessary skills are developed, with industry as a partner, ”he said.
Chandra also assured industry stakeholders that the government wants to play a facilitating role and will work to support the media and entertainment industry in all ways.
